Manchester United Player Ratings Against Liverpool

Amad Diallo scored the winner and was sent off shortly afterwards as Manchester United came from behind to win a classic FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday and end Liverpool’s hopes of a quadruple.

A fast Red Devils start saw Scott McTominay deservedly put the hosts ahead but lapses in concentration helped Jurgen Klopp’s side overturn that deficit through Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah.

Substitute Antony forced extra time with a smart finish, but Liverpool took advantage of disorganisation in Man Utd’s ranks when Elliott’s deflected strike from distance crept past Andre Onana.

However, Marcus Rashford’s late effort drew United level again before Amad Diallo sensationally won it, then being sent off for two yellow cards before the full-time whistle.

The end-to-end nature of the contest was aided by Man Utd’s varied mix of personnel, with Maguire, Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof their only remaining defenders, and the more balanced visitors took advantage as Harvey Elliott struck.

The Englishman was given too much time and his shot from distance deflected off Christian Eriksen and nutmegged Maguire, wrong-footing Onana as it crept beyond his dive into the far corner.

However, Nunez gave the ball away horrendously and allowed McTominay to find Rashford, who finally hit the target to draw the Ten Hag’s side level before the incredible finale.

Liverpool were caught hopelessly high up the pitch, allowing Garnacho and Diallo to combine on the break before the latter pinged a finish off the post and in to send United through to the semi-finals at Wembley.

Here’s how Manchester United players were rated:

GK: Andre Onana – 8/10 – Made some acrobatic saves in the first half but couldn’t get to Mac Allister or Salah’s strikes. Kept his side in the contest for more impressive stops throughout the game.

RB: Diogo Dalot – 6.5/10 – Stuck his foot in and was solid enough on his more comfortable side.

CB: Raphael Varane – 6/10 – Ended up on the line when Salah bashed in Liverpool’s second. Not exactly robust but didn’t do too much wrong.

CB: Victor Lindelof – 5.5/10 – Couldn’t clear effectively and charged around the box like a headless chicken when Liverpool went ahead. Didn’t inspire much confidence.

LB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5/10 – Hardly convincing for either goal, seeing Quansah gallop into the box on his side before Fernandes had the ball knicked away from his pass.

CM: Scott McTominay – 8/10 – Showed his adventurous side by getting into the box to poke in the early opener. Didin’t offer much control so the game turned into a basketball match, but also notched a crucial assist for Rashford.

CM: Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10 – Displayed such coolness in possession during the first half with some great touches and clever runs. Just lacking some defensive nous.

RW: Alejandro Garnacho – 7/10 – Looked frustrated after being ignored a few times when well placed out wide. His shot helped force McTominay’s opener and he later set up Diallo’s winner.

AM: Bruno Fernandes – 7/10 – Quick free-kick set Rashford away before McTominay arrived to score. Walked the tightrope of a yellow card but was as committed as ever, playing through injury in extra time.

LW: Marcus Rashford – 7/10 – Was involved in some electric passages early on, though his influence definitely dropped markedly afterwards. Was pretty rusty in front of goal but finally scored when his side needed him most.

ST: Rasmus Hojlund – 5/10 – Had one decent opening to get a shot away but was largely uninvolved on his return from injury.

Substitutes

SUB: Antony (71′ for Hojlund) – 7/10 – Definitely his best performance of the season, bagging United’s late equaliser and looking much more threatening than usual.

SUB: Harry Maguire (71 for Wan-Bissaka) – 7/10 – Played as an auxiliary striker at times and nearly forced an opening with his brutish size.

SUB: Christian Eriksen (80′ for Mainoo) – 6/10 – Clipped some dangerous balls over Liverpool’s defence for the attackers to chase after.

SUB: Amad Diallo (85′ for Varane) – 7/10 – Showed dangerous bursts of pace and eventually put it all together by scoring the winner. Was also sent off, but it was probably worth it.

SUB: Mason Mount (105′ for Lindelof) – 6/10 – Made his long-awaited return from injury in the second half of extra time.

Subs not used: Tom Heaton, Willy Kambwala, Omari Forson, Sofyan Amrabat.
