Mason Greenwood Responds To Jamaica Copa America Call-Up
Mason Greenwood appeared to bid farewell to Getafe supporters following the conclusion of their season, with Manchester United yet to make a final decision over his future.
Greenwood joined Spanish side Getafe on a season-long loan deal last summer. The forward was due to return to United upon the conclusion of his deal expiring on July 1.
Getafe are interested in Greenwood returning, but he seemed to say goodbye in a statement shared on Instagram following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Mallorca, their final game of the season.
He said: “Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season, thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club.
“A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.”
If United cannot seal a move for Greenwood by June 30, a return to training cannot be ruled out. While it is uncertain if he would rejoin the first team set-up, the club cannot, contractually, prevent his return.
All options remain open regarding Greenwood’s future. United’s preference is to secure a permanent sale, but they are willing to loan him out again if they cannot find a buyer. The club are planning to work through the potential options with his family in the coming weeks.

Mason Greenwood Jamaica national team call-up
Jamaica head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson says he would “love” to have Mason Greenwood playing for his side and confirmed he has spoken to the Manchester United forward about a switch.
Greenwood has one senior cap for England but is allowed to switch nations under FIFA rules.
“I really don’t like to talk about ‘what if’, but this, of course, has come to our mind,” Hallgrimsson told The Athletic at a CONCACAF Nations League preview event in Dallas on Tuesday.
“I would love to have him in my team. Like all coaches, I would like to have the best players in our team, but it’s always up to the player himself if he wants to do it.”
Asked about whether Greenwood’s legal case would impact the decision to bring him into the Jamaica team, Hallgrimsson said: “That will then be up to the Federation. It’s not the coach who is going to answer for something like that. I’m not an expert in this.
“I just look at the person. I think what he has gone through in the year and a half since it happened is worse than I can imagine, being in the press and on social media. I can only imagine what he has been going through. The case went through stages and the case was dropped, so it’s not up to me or anyone else to judge him on that.
“It was no less a person than Jesus Christ who said, those who are without sin should throw the first stone. Whatever happened, everybody at least deserves a second chance. And he knows that all eyes are on him.”
FIFA rules state that players can switch international allegiance as long as they have made fewer than three senior appearances for one nation before the age of 21 and have not played for them for at least three years.
Greenwood has only represented England’s senior team once, coming on as a 78th-minute substitute away against Iceland on September 5, 2020, during a UEFA Nations League match.
The Jamaica football federation have now made the decision to call-up Mason Greenwood for the upcoming Copa America in the USA to bolster their attacking options. This move comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance their squad with talented players who have ties to Jamaica through their heritage or family connections.
His inclusion in the Jamaica national team could bring a significant boost to their offensive capabilities, given his pace, technical abilities, and sharp goal-scoring instincts.
If Mason Greenwood decides to switch national allegiance and play for Jamaica, it would be a notable addition to the team’s roster.
