Mason Greenwood Set To Return To Man Utd Training After Loan Spell
Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood insists he feels ‘very happy and comfortable’ at Getafe after being named the club’s Player of the Season award for the 2023/24 campaign.
The striker spent the year on loan in Spain after completing his move on transfer deadline day last August. During his loan spell, Greenwood scored 10 goals and assisted a further six for Getafe as they finished 12th in La Liga.
He was suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 amid allegations of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. A lengthy investigation into the case then followed, with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropping all charges against the striker in February 2022.
Greenwood made his last appearance for Getafe in the 2-1 defeat to Mallorca before saying farewell to his temporary club on Instagram.
After the end of his loan spell was confirmed last week, Greenwood was awarded Getafe’s Player of the Season award. The club confirmed the award on Tuesday morning and the 22-year-old thanked his teammates for their support as he spoke about the ‘amazing experience’ he has had in Spain.

“It feels amazing to receive this kind of award,” he said. “I wouldn’t be able to get this achievement if it wasn’t for my teammates and the coaching staff. Everybody has done well with helping me to get this award and I want to say thank you to them.
“I think we’ve done very well. We could have got some extra points here and there to try and push into European places but it hasn’t been possible. I feel very happy and comfortable here, it’s been an amazing experience.”
Mason Greenwood to return to Man Utd training
Greenwood returns to United with 12 months left to run on his contract. New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is yet to rule out reintegrating the forward into the United squad, although reports suggest the priority remains to offload Greenwood permanently this summer.
Previous reports have claimed United value Greenwood very highly which is far too high for Getafe – and a handful of unnamed Premier League sides are believed to have enquired about his availability.
Getafe are entitled to a share of any future sale, with United agreeing to such a clause to help convince the Spanish side to take the risk of hiring Greenwood on loan last summer.
Mason Greenwood could be back to training with the United squad if a decision regarding his future is not finalized on time.
