Unhappy Man Utd Player Agrees Deal With Celtic

Signed just last summer, Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is set to join Celtic after the 26-year-old move to Old Trafford from Fenerbahce last summer but has struggled for game time.

Andre Onana has been the peferred option between the sticks for Man Utd last term. Onana who also joined last summer from Inter-Milan, as proven to be indispensable relegating Bayindir to the bench throughout last season.

Scottish side Celtic now look set to bring their Joe Hart successor search to an end by landing Manchester United understudy Altay Bayindir, according to a report.

The 26-year-old – who has been capped eight times for his national team Turkey – made the switch to Old Trafford from Fenerbahce last year as he battled for the gloves with Andre Onana following the exit of club hero and long-serving David De Gea.

He played largely second fiddle all season for Erik ten Hag’s side as the Dutchman kept faith with big money capture Onana. A series of high profile errors and blunders didn’t affect his selection with Bayindir making just one appearance in the FA Cup fourth round against Newport County.

United went on to lift the Cup by dumping rivals Manchester City at Wembley but he was a spectator from the bench – a role he’s largely held all season.

Turkish media outlet Aksam reports that the man who joined United for £4.3million is heading out of England and they state his next destination is Scotland. They write that “Celtic is preparing to add Altay Bayindir to its squad to replace Joe Hart, who retired from football. The Scottish team plans to sign a four-year contract with the 26-year-old goalkeeper”.

Earlier, reports from his homeland emerged claiming Celtic are planning to offer the 26-year-old a four-year deal at Parkhead amid his search for increased game time, making him the latest potential option to replace retired icon Joe Hart.

Despite the transfer window still being closed, speculation continues regarding who the Hoops could identify as their new number one.

Taking to social media platform X, Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler has responded to claims Celtic could swoop for Bayindir this summer, stating that Manchester United sources deny speculation that he could be headed to Parkhead.

The reporter stated: “Man Utd sources deny speculation in Turkey that goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is set to join Celtic. Bayindir has a decision to make this summer over whether he wants to stay as No.2 to Andre Onana after only playing once for Utd last season.

Bayindir has an exciting profile that would tick several boxes from a Celtic perspective, given his size, pedigree and potential sell-on value down the line.

Nevertheless, this rumour looks to have fallen flat on its face not long after entering the public domain, leaving Rodgers and company searching for an alternative.

Either way, Celtic will have done their due diligence on targets to succeed Hart before the new campaign gets underway.
