Paul Pogba In Advance Talks For Man United Reunion
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to leave Juventus. The 31-year-old failed a doping test in 2023 and was subsequently handed a four-year suspension from football which looked like it would end his professional playing career.
There are suggestions of ongoing negotiations between both Juventus and Pogba to terminate the player’s contract.
As a result, the France World Cup winner has been linked with some European clubs, including Marseille.
Pogba re-joined Juventus from United in July 2022 but endured a difficult first 12 months in Turin before his ban was confirmed, making just 12 appearances across all competitions. Juventus chief executive Maurizio Scanavino said: “I can confirm that we’re in talks with Paul Pogba and his camp to find a solution.”
Malick Traore of NCI has reported that Pogba is already in ‘advanced discussions’ over reuniting with former United teammate Mason Greenwood at Marseille, who have started the season in fine fettle. They sit third in Ligue 1 and have picked up 14 points from their opening seven fixtures.
There has been talk of Pogba potentially joining Lionel Messi and Co in MLS. Still, fellow countryman Evra wants to see a proven performer return to his homeland and link up with ex-United winger Greenwood at Marseille.
Evra has told the Rothen s’enflamme podcast: “99% of the time, I think we won’t see Paul again in Juve colours. We have to turn the page. I will call Medhi Benatia so he can call him because the doors are open.”
Evra spent time with United, Juve and Marseille in his own playing career and wants the best for Pogba. It remains to be seen what response he will get from Benatia – who is now sporting director at Stade Velodrome – but there is still plenty for Pogba to offer somebody if he can rekindle a lost spark.
