Barcelona Offer Player-Plus-Cash Deal for Rashford
Manchester United’s summer transfer plans could take an unexpected turn as Barcelona have reportedly offered German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in a direct swap deal for Red Devils forward Marcus Rashford.

This intriguing proposition comes amidst Barcelona’s ongoing financial challenges, which are making a direct cash payment for Rashford’s €40m asking price difficult.
After a disappointing Premier League campaign, Manchester United are keen to overhaul their squad.
They’ve already committed a significant £62.5m to bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolves, a deal that will be paid in installments, highlighting the need for strategic moves in the remainder of the transfer window.
Interest in Rashford from Barcelona is not new, with their sporting director Deco previously acknowledging their admiration for the England international.
Fresh reports from Spain indicate that Barcelona are actively “studying options to sign the Englishman,” believing his “profile fits perfectly into Hansi Flick’s attacking plans.”
However, the Catalan giants’ financial limitations are a major hurdle. While Manchester United are unwilling to sanction a loan move for Rashford, Barcelona are currently unable to directly afford his valuation.
This has led to the emergence of a creative solution within Barcelona’s sporting management: offering Ter Stegen as part of a player-plus-cash, or even a direct player swap, arrangement.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, a highly-rated goalkeeper, is reportedly open to the move, with whispers suggesting he feels Barcelona are subtly pushing him towards an exit, especially with the club reportedly nearing an agreement for Espanyol’s Joan Garcia as a potential replacement.
United, on the other hand, are said to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after an inconsistent season for Andre Onana, making the prospect of acquiring a proven talent like Ter Stegen potentially appealing, despite concerns over his age (33).
Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s new manager, is understood to be keen on reinforcing his attacking options, particularly on the left wing, and sees Rashford as an ideal fit.
While some reports suggest Flick has already identified Joan Garcia as his preferred starting goalkeeper, which would make Ter Stegen expendable, others indicate that Flick views Ter Stegen’s return from injury as having resolved the goalkeeper situation.
This potential divergence in internal views could influence the viability of the swap deal.
For Manchester United, a swap deal for Rashford could offer a solution to both their attacking and goalkeeping needs.
