Napoli Close in on a Deal to Sign Man Utd Forward
Napoli are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho, with the English club keen to offload the player they now deem surplus to requirements.
The move comes after Sancho’s proposed permanent transfer to Chelsea fell through due to disagreements over his wage structure.
Manchester United is understood to be seeking a fee of £25 million for the 25-year-old winger. This asking price, while significant, is a considerable drop from the £73 million they paid Borussia Dortmund for his services in 2021.
The Red Devils are reportedly eager to recoup funds and free up his substantial wages, said to be around £300,000 per week.
Sancho spent the 2024/2025 season on loan at Chelsea, where he had a somewhat mixed spell. While he notably scored in the UEFA Conference League final, his overall impact wasn’t enough to convince the Blues to make his stay permanent.
Chelsea had an obligation to buy clause in his loan agreement, reportedly for £25 million if they finished 15th or higher in the Premier League.
However, a breakdown in personal terms, primarily concerning his high salary demands, led Chelsea to pay a reported £5 million penalty fee to Manchester United to avoid the permanent transfer.
Napoli, under the guidance of manager Antonio Conte, are looking to bolster their attacking options, especially after the January departure of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Serie A champions have been actively seeking a new left-sided attacker and view Sancho as a potential fit. The Italian club recently secured the services of former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and are looking to build a formidable squad.
The prospect of a move to Napoli could offer Sancho a much-needed fresh start in a new league, away from the intense scrutiny of the Premier League.
While his high wage demands remain a hurdle, Napoli are reportedly exploring ways to make the deal feasible.
