Carlos Baleba’s Camp Responds to Brighton’s New Contract Proposal
Manchester United’s interest in signing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has been gaining momentum, with reports suggesting the club has made contact with Brighton’s management through intermediaries.
The 21-year-old Cameroon international has been a standout performer for Brighton since joining from Lille in 2023 for €27 million.
Brighton are reportedly demanding a monumental £100 million plus £10 million in bonuses for Baleba, while Manchester United are offering £70 million.
Despite Brighton’s high asking price, Baleba hasn’t closed the door on a potential move to Manchester United. However, he’s unlikely to force a transfer by engaging in a power struggle with his current club.
The Red Devils believe agreeing to personal terms with Baleba won’t be an issue, but the club-to-club deal is considered very difficult.
Brighton are keen to keep Baleba and won’t make it easy for Manchester United to sign him. Chief executive Paul Barber emphasized that speculation is speculation and United haven’t been in touch with him regarding a deal.
Baleba’s potential departure would be a significant loss for Brighton, given his impressive performances since joining the club.
Chelsea’s signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton for £50 million, half of the original demand, has raised questions about Brighton’s pricing strategy.
This might give Manchester United hope that they can negotiate a better deal.
