Sheikh Jassim Sends Message to Glazers Amid Triggered Clause

Sheikh Jassim Reportedly Has ‘Zero Interest’ in Renewed Manchester United Takeover Bid

Reports that a “drag-along” clause in the deal between the Glazer family and INEOS has been triggered, potentially opening the door for a full sale of Manchester United, have reignited speculation about a return of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani.

However, sources close to the Qatari bid have swiftly shut down the rumors, stating there is “zero interest” in reviving the takeover attempt.

The clause, which became active on August 13, 18 months after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment, gives the Glazers the power to force INEOS to sell its shares if they receive an acceptable offer for their majority stake.

This legal development has been a source of hope for many fans who had previously seen Sheikh Jassim’s all-or-nothing bid as their only path to a complete exit for the Glazers.

While the activation of the clause theoretically simplifies a full sale, it is not a guarantee that the Glazers will sell.

Furthermore, it appears that the former suitor for the club has moved on. The Qatari group is reportedly focused on other “mega projects,” including a bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

During the previous takeover saga, Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation had promised a debt-free acquisition and significant investment in the club’s infrastructure, including a new stadium and training facilities.

This vision had resonated with a large portion of the Manchester United fanbase, who have grown weary of the Glazers’ ownership.

Sources have indicated that the Qatari group believes the project would be “even more difficult now” and that their interest in acquiring a leading European club has waned.

This suggests that even if the Glazers were to put the club up for sale, Sheikh Jassim’s camp would not be the one to answer the call.

For now, the focus at Old Trafford remains on the partnership between the Glazers and INEOS, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team in charge of football operations.

While the “drag-along” clause may have been triggered, it appears the Glazers’ working relationship with Ratcliffe is positive, and a sale in the immediate future is not on the cards.
