Elche Completes Deal for Man United Defender

Malacia Set for Spanish Switch as He Joins Elche on Loan

Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia is on the verge of a temporary move to Spanish side Elche, with reports indicating a season-long loan deal until June 2026 has been agreed upon.

The move, as reported by football journalist Nicolo Schira, will see the Dutch international seek regular first-team football after a challenging period at Old Trafford.

The transfer comes as little surprise, given Malacia’s absence from Manchester United’s first-team plans under new manager Ruben Amorim.

The left-back, who was the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era in 2022, endured a difficult 2024-25 campaign, missing the entire season due to a serious knee injury.

While he has since recovered and returned to individual training, he has found himself on the fringes of the squad, with United having a number of options in his position.

The Spanish club, who were promoted to La Liga for the 2025-26 season after finishing second in the Segunda Division, will provide the defender with the playing time he needs.

The prospect of consistent football was a key factor in Malacia’s decision, as he reportedly turned down other potential moves to clubs like AS Roma, Besiktas, and Lille.

The loan deal, which is set to last until the end of the 2025-26 season, is a strategic move for both parties.

The move allows Manchester United to trim a member of the “bomb squad” and offload a player who doesn’t seem to fit into Amorim’s plans.
