Pundits Backs Erik Ten Hag as Sancho Faces Manchester United Exile

Jadon Sancho emerged from the city youth academy but couldn’t thrive under Pep Guardiola. With little to no guaranteed playing time, he made the move to Germany and joined Borussia Dortmund, which marked the beginning of something special

Jadon Sancho became an instant sensation at Borussia Dortmund, playing alongside players like Erling Haaland, who is currently at Manchester City, Marco Reus, the then captain of Borussia Dortmund, Gio Reyna, and Jude Bellingham.

Jadon Sancho excelled with 34 goal involvements in his second season at Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United, in dire need of an electrifying winger like Sancho, made a strong push to sign him under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, the dream of landing Jadon Sancho quickly turned into a quandary as Borussia Dortmund priced him out of the move with a €120M price tag. The deal fell through, and Sancho remained at Dortmund that summer.

Undeterred, Manchester United made another attempt in the following summer transfer window and this time successfully acquired him in a mouthwatering €80M deal.Sancho’s start at Manchester United was not smooth, with the English sensation struggling to hit the ground running in his first spell at the club. The manager who desperately wanted to sign him was subsequently sacked, with Rangnick taking over on an interim basis. Despite a new manager in charge, Sancho’s form continued to decline.

Erik Ten Hag assumed the manager position permanently, aiming to revive the careers of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and a few other key players at Manchester United. While there was improvement in Rashford’s performance, the same couldn’t be said for Sancho.A few months into the job, due to some off-field issues that led to Sancho deactivating his social media accounts, Erik Ten Hag granted Sancho a three-month leave. During this time, Sancho underwent an individual training program designed to help him regain his best form. However, his attitude and timing to training were not suitable for Erik Ten Hag, known for his strict disciplinary actions.

Unable to discipline Sancho, Erik Ten Hag publicly criticized him in front of the press after a painful defeat to Arsenal. Ten Hag called out Sancho for not showing up to training on time and for missing his training schedule. In an attempt to respond to the manager, Sancho posted a message on his Twitter account, further deepening the rift between him and Erik Ten Hag.

Now, Erik Ten Hag demands an apology from Jadon Sancho before allowing him back into the Manchester United squad. Currently, Sancho is not permitted to use the training facilities at Carrington.

Steve Bruce, the former Newcastle United manager and a former Manchester United player, shared his honest opinion on the ongoing issue between Erik Ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.

Steve Bruce on Sancho: “You can’t go public against the manager, you can say whatever to him in the dressing room, but not in public, you undermine the club.”

Opinions were expressed by Roy Keane, a former player of Manchester United, on the matter as well: “I’ve been in dressing rooms where guys have come in and said, ‘Sorry guys, I made a mistake,’ and it’s quickly forgotten. If a player shows he cares about others and he is human, everything is fine. We move on quickly.”

Jamie Carragher on Jadon Sancho situation: “I’m with Erik ten Hag on this one. We always say how strong Pep and Klopp are, Guardiola banished and sold a great player like Cancelo. They just deal with these situation and we say ‘oh they’re strong managers, very ruthless’ like Sir Alex Ferguson, we praise them, so why different for Erik ten Hag.”

The only way back for Jadon Sancho is to tender an apology to the manager, staff and entire dressing room.
