Manchester United Make Initial Contact with Brighton over Carlos Baleba
Manchester United have reportedly initiated contact with Brighton & Hove Albion, through intermediaries, to explore a potential deal for highly-rated midfielder Carlos Baleba.
The move signals a potential shift in United’s transfer strategy as they look to strengthen their midfield options.
According to reports, the Red Devils are keen to understand the conditions surrounding a possible transfer for the 21-year-old Cameroonian international.
Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille for around £26 million in 2023, has quickly established himself as a key player for the Seagulls and is widely regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Premier League.
Baleba’s impressive performances have drawn comparisons to his predecessor, Moises Caicedo, who also moved from Brighton to a top-six club for a substantial fee.
The midfielder’s dynamic style, combining physical dominance with strong ball-carrying and passing, has made him a target for several top clubs, with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal also previously linked with the player.
Brighton, known for their shrewd transfer business, are understood to be reluctant to sell Baleba and would likely demand a very high price for his services.
Some reports suggest that Brighton could set an asking price in the region of £80m to £100m, similar to the fee they received for Caicedo.
Baleba is currently under contract at the Amex Stadium until 2028, with an option for a further year, putting Brighton in a strong negotiating position.
This development comes as Manchester United are also working on a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, indicating a busy summer ahead for the club as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for top honors under new management.
While a deal for Baleba would be complex and costly, United’s interest suggests they are determined to address their midfield needs with a long-term solution.
