Man United Offered Long-Standing Midfield Target for £20M
Frenkie de Jong’s contract situation at Barcelona has cast doubt on his future at the club.

The Dutch midfielder has been reluctant to sign a new deal, and for the first time, his starting spot is under threat.
According to Sport, Barcelona had a contract offer on the table for de Jong, but it has since been withdrawn. The club feels that due to the change in his role, any new contract negotiations should start from scratch.
De Jong’s current salary is not €35m gross per season, but the cost of keeping him next year would be around that amount. As a result, Barcelona is willing to sell him for as little as €20m next summer.
Unless de Jong agrees to renew his contract at a significantly lower rate, Barcelona will look to move him on. With Marc Casado’s impressive form and Marc Bernal’s expected return from injury, de Jong’s playing time is far from guaranteed.
Manchester United, who have long admired de Jong under Erik ten Hag, may be offered another chance to sign him at a discounted price under new boss Ruben Amorim.
