Man United Possible Starting XI Against Fulham
Following a promising but ultimately fruitless season opener against Arsenal, Manchester United are heading to Craven Cottage looking for their first Premier League win under new manager Ruben Amorim.
With key selection decisions to be made, here’s a look at the likely lineup for the Red Devils against Fulham.
Goalkeeper and Defense
The biggest debate in the backline revolves around the goalkeeping position. While Altay Bayındır started against Arsenal, his costly mistake has opened the door for André Onana to return.
Onana, who has recovered from a pre-season injury, is now back in the squad and is widely expected to reclaim his starting spot as the first-choice keeper.
In defense, a back three of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Luke Shaw is anticipated to remain unchanged. This trio performed well against Arsenal’s formidable attack, with de Ligt earning praise for his solid performance.
Harry Maguire is another option at the back, but the continuity of the Yoro, de Ligt, and Shaw partnership seems more probable. The long-term absences of Lisandro MartÃnez (ACL) and Noussair Mazraoui (thigh injury) mean they are unavailable.
The Midfield
The midfield is where Amorim has some interesting choices. The pairing of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes started against Arsenal and is likely to continue.
Fernandes recently signed a new contract and will be a key figure in leading the team. The young and impressive Kobbie Mainoo is a strong contender to start but may have to settle for a place on the bench, offering a fresh option for the second half.
On the wings, the system will likely feature two wing-backs. Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu were deployed in the opener.
Attack
The attack is where the most significant change is expected. While Mason Mount, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha all featured against Arsenal, the big talking point is whether new summer signing Benjamin Šeško will get his first start.
After an impressive cameo last week, the young striker is tipped by many to lead the line. This would likely see Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo operate in the roles behind him, with Mount potentially dropping to the bench.
Rasmus Højlund was not in the squad for the Arsenal game and reports suggest his future at the club is uncertain, making him a definite absentee.
Predicted Manchester United XI (3-4-2-1):
Onana; Yoro, de Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha; Šeško.
