Man United Possible Starting XI against Lyon

Manchester United may see Kobbie Mainoo return to action in tonight’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Lyon after the midfielder resumed training this week following a two-month absence due to a calf injury.

While a starting role is unlikely, manager Ruben Amorim hinted at a potential substitute appearance, emphasizing caution: “We have to be careful with Kobbie.

He’s been out for several games, so managing his fitness is crucial. We’re happy with his progress, but patience is key.”

Defensive concerns persist, however, as Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with a foot injury that also ruled him out of the Manchester derby.

With Lisandro Martínez, Jonny Evans, and youth prospect Ayden Heaven unavailable, Harry Maguire is expected to partner the in-form Leny Yoro at center-back.

Amorim added: “De Ligt’s recovery is ongoing, and we’re assessing his timeline. Toby Collyer also has a minor leg issue.”

Luke Shaw is fit but may not displace Patrick Dorgu at left-back, while Mason Mount, who made a brief appearance last weekend after his own injury layoff, is unlikely to start.

Alejandro Garnacho’s recent struggles for form could prompt tactical adjustments, and Rasmus Højlund may replace Joshua Zirkzee up front after the latter started against Manchester City.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro, Dalot; Ugarte, Casemiro; Fernandes, Garnacho, Dorgu; Zirkzee.
