Man United Star Unhappy with New Midfield Role

Reports suggesting that Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is growing increasingly frustrated with his deeper midfield role under manager Ruben Amorim have intensified, sparking debate among fans and pundits over the best way to utilize the club’s talismanic creator.

For a player renowned for his high-risk, high-reward creative passing and relentless movement in the final third, the shift into a more reserved, deeper midfield position often alongside a single pivot in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system appears to be stifling his core strengths.

Before the arrival of Amorim, Fernandes operated almost exclusively as a traditional No. 10. In that advanced position, his heat map was a tapestry of activity, allowing him to roam, drift wide, and execute those signature killer passes into the box.

The current setup, however, demands greater positional discipline and defensive diligence from the Portuguese international. While Fernandes has certainly put in the effort his work rate is rarely questioned sources claim the player feels constrained, unable to fully influence the attack in the manner that made him one of the Premier League’s most prolific creators.

Pundits have pointed to recent defensive lapses, suggesting that his natural inclination to surge forward leaves the midfield pair exposed, a weakness opposition teams are increasingly looking to exploit.

“Bruno is a player who thrives on chaos in the final third a controlled chaos, of course,” said former United midfield said Paul Scholes. “When you ask him to worry about tracking runners in his own half, you are sacrificing his genius. It’s a trade-off Amorim is making for midfield security, but it’s clearly at the cost of the player’s best attributes.”
