Man United Urged to Re-sign Player Ten Hag Sold for €5M

Manchester United are under growing pressure to activate a buyback clause for former academy goalkeeper Matej Kovar, currently excelling at Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old Czech shot-stopper, sold by Erik ten Hag in 2023 for €5 million, has emerged as a surprise solution to United’s mounting goalkeeping concerns following Andre Onana’s erratic form.

Kovar joined United’s youth ranks in 2018 but made just one senior appearance (a 2023 EFL Cup tie) before being sold to Leverkusen last summer.

However, the deal included a €15 million buyback clause, a safeguard now gaining relevance amid his rapid development under Xabi Alonso.

A sale could fund Kovar’s return, but finding suitors for Onana’s €45m wage package remains tricky. Other Goalkeeper options are currently being assessed too by Manchester United.
