Man Utd Pull-Plug on Goalkeeper Pursuit
Manchester United Pull Plug on Emi Martinez Pursuit Due to High Cost

Manchester United have reportedly ended their interest in signing highly-rated Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez this summer, with the club deeming the financial outlay for the Argentine international to be excessive.
This development, reported by Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic FC, suggests a shift in Manchester United’s goalkeeping transfer strategy.
Despite ongoing speculation linking the World Cup winner with a move to Old Trafford, and previous reports of a rejected loan offer, it appears the Reds are unwilling to meet Aston Villa’s valuation for their star stopper.
Martinez, who signed a new contract with Villa until 2029 in August 2024, is a key asset for the West Midlands club, making any potential transfer a costly affair.
Sources indicate that Villa were seeking a substantial fee for the 32-year-old, a price tag Manchester United are evidently not prepared to match, especially given their significant spending on other areas of the squad already this summer.
The decision comes as Manchester United look to address their goalkeeping situation under new manager Ruben Amorim.
While Andre Onana has faced scrutiny, and Altay Bayindir’s future at the club remains uncertain, the club is now expected to explore more financially viable options.
Recent reports have linked United with Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens, a younger and reportedly more affordable alternative.
