Manchester United Fans Seek Review on Erik Ten Hag’s Managerial Position
As tension steeds on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, the club will face financial complications if he part ways with him this season. After a disappointing start, which incorporated a disappointing 3-0 derby defeat to UEFA Champions League bottom side Manchester City, and the possibility of an early exit from the UEFA Champions League, the Red Devils sit eighth in the PremierLeague and are presently out of the Carabao Cup.
Although the Red Devils have denied all rumors about a possible expatriation, many journalists believe that the handwriting is now a reality. Firing Erik Ten Hag would be very pricey, Football Insider discloses, costing the club over £15 million in settlement.
The former Ajax coach’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2025 with an option to extend it for a further year; cessation of the contract would result in the payment of the guaranteed severance payment for the entire term of the contract.
According to The Mirror, the Dutch coach earns around £9 million a year as manager of Manchester United. Additionally, breaking up with Ten Hag would also mandate significant salaries for backroom staff.
This is not the first time Manchester United’s board has faced serious financial impacts due to leadership changes. In the past, the club paid Ralf Rangnick around £15 million despite his short six-month tenure.
The Sun reports that the club has also spent £38m to compensate for the departure of former managers such as David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
As Manchester United grapples with current on-field challenges, it must consider the financial costs associated with changes to its management, creating a complex decision-making process for the club’s hierarchy.
