Napoli makes Decision on Jadon Sancho
Napoli’s Sporting Director Giovanni Manna has issued a definitive statement regarding the club’s pursuit of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho: “Our offer is clear, we will NOT pay Sancho’s requested salary.”
This unequivocal declaration casts significant doubt over Sancho’s potential move to the Serie A champions, despite reports suggesting Napoli was his preferred destination.
The 25-year-old Englishman has been widely expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after a challenging period since his £73 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, and a subsequent loan spell at Chelsea.
Sancho’s current contract with Manchester United is reportedly worth a staggering £300,000 per week, a figure that appears to be a major stumbling block for Napoli.
While the Italian club has made an offer for the player, it’s clear they are unwilling to break their wage structure to accommodate his demands.
Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Sancho is open to a move to Italy to revive his career, but the significant disparity in salary expectations poses a considerable challenge.
Napoli, under new head coach Antonio Conte, is keen to bolster their squad, especially on the wing, following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s departure in January. Sancho had emerged as a prime target, with his flair and creativity seen as a good fit for Conte’s system.
However, Manna’s firm stance signals that Napoli will not be held to ransom over wages. This puts the ball squarely in Sancho’s court: either he lowers his salary demands to facilitate a move to Naples, or he and his representatives must explore other avenues.
Manchester United are reportedly looking to offload Sancho permanently this summer and are seeking a fee around £25 million, similar to the obligation-to-buy clause in his recent Chelsea loan, which the Blues opted not to trigger, instead paying a £5 million penalty.
The situation now hinges on Sancho’s willingness to compromise. With his contract at Old Trafford still having one year left, and an option to extend by a further 12 months, the winger faces a crucial decision that could shape the next chapter of his career.
