Revealed: Aston Villa’s Offer to Man United for Sancho
The summer transfer window’s final days have brought a fresh twist in the ongoing saga of Jadon Sancho, with Aston Villa emerging as a serious suitor for the Manchester United forward.
The two clubs are at an impasse, with Villa favoring a loan deal and United determined to secure a permanent sale.
Sources indicate that Unai Emery’s side has made a formal approach to Manchester United for a season-long loan of the England international.
Villa, who are in need of attacking reinforcements, see Sancho as a potential solution to their creative issues, particularly on the flanks.
Conversely, Manchester United’s preference is a permanent departure for the 25-year-old. After a tumultuous period at Old Trafford that has included loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, the club is keen to offload Sancho’s significant wages and recoup a portion of the £73 million they paid for him in 2021.
The Red Devils are reportedly looking for a fee in the region of £30 million.
The negotiations are further complicated by a potential swap deal involving Villa’s goalkeeper, Emiliano Martínez. Manchester United are understood to have agreed personal terms with the Argentine World Cup winner, and discussions are underway to explore a move that could see Sancho go the other way to help reduce the transfer fee for Martínez.
While a loan would provide Sancho with the regular first-team football he desperately needs under a manager who has a proven track record of revitalizing players, it would not fully resolve Manchester United’s long-term issue.
The club is under pressure to sell players to finance further squad changes and a permanent sale would be a major step in that direction.
