Sir Alex Ferguson is Still winning Even After Retiring
Bahrain’s horseracing programme continues to evolve and following a successful second edition of the Turf Series, where 50% of the winners were trained outside of Bahrain, the 10 races will again return in December 2023.
The programme specifically targets international horses rated 85-100 to compete against the locally trained horses in Bahrain. Visiting horses will be based within the region from December through to February.
The Bahrain Turf Series will be interlinked and run alongside the best racing in Bahrain with International horses competing in the series also eligible to run in any other domestic races in the 2023-24 imported programme. Priority for inclusion will be given to visiting horses from Europe with two spaces in each race reserved for horses from the GCC.
The Bahrain International Trophy is the highest profile race run in the Kingdom of Bahrain and this year an increase in prize money will boost the value of the race to $1M. Furthermore, it was recently announced by the Asian Pattern Committee that the race has earned a promotion from Group 3 to Group 2 status following a review of the race’s past performances and the quality of the runners it attracted.
The 2023 running of the $1M Bahrain International Trophy will take place on 17th November at the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club with entries for the 1m2f (2000m) event closing on 5th October.
Last year’s race included runners from six different countries and was won by Dubai Future, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor for Godolphin, while in 2021 the ever-popular grey Lord Glitters won the race for trainer David O’Meara. Source ( Bahrain turf)
