Trabzonspor Makes Enquiry for Man United Ace

Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor has made an enquiry to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, with the Turkish transfer window still open for business until September 12.

The move comes as Manchester United navigates a complex goalkeeping situation following the recent arrival of Belgian international Senne Lammens.

United’s acquisition of Lammens for a reported £18 million fee from Royal Antwerp has intensified the competition for the number one spot at Old Trafford.

This has prompted speculation about the future of either Altay Bayindir or Andre Onana, both of whom have had a shaky start to the season.  

Bayindir, who was signed from Fenerbahce in 2023, has had limited opportunities to impress since his arrival. However, the Turkish international started the first three Premier League matches of the season after Andre Onana was sidelined with an injury.

Despite a mixed bag of performances, including a costly error against Arsenal, Bayindir has previously expressed a desire to stay and fight for his place at the club, reportedly rejecting a move to Galatasaray earlier in the summer.  

Meanwhile, Andre Onana has also faced intense scrutiny. The Cameroonian international was benched for the start of the Premier League season and failed to impress in a recent Carabao Cup outing.

With Lammens now in the picture, it appears United’s hierarchy is open to offloading one of their current senior goalkeepers to streamline the squad and potentially recoup funds.  

Trabzonspor, recognizing the opportunity presented by the late-window activity, has made an initial approach for Bayindir.

While the Turkish transfer window remains open for several more days, allowing time for negotiations, it remains to be seen whether United will sanction a sale and which of their goalkeepers will be deemed surplus to requirements.
