The Daily Mail report that United are watching Mikayil Faye with a summer move for the Barcelona B talent now in mind.
United scouted Faye in action for Senegal against Gabon during the international break and have been on his tail for three months now.
Moves directly between the two clubs have been incredibly rare but United may now be interested in a summer raid on the Catalan giants.
The 19-year-old has been a regular for the Barcelona B team with three goals in 24 games, but he has yet to land a first-team debut.
Manchester United chances of signing Faye
Manchester United aren’t having a decent season and have suffered in the defensive section.
They need to strengthen their backline and bring in an alternative to Jonny Evans in the summer.
That’s where Mikayil Faye can fit in well and serve the club for a long time.
However, the signing won’t be a piece of cake. The Senegal defender will demand game-time assurance in order to move to Old Trafford.
Barcelona, on the other hand, might not entertain any offer for the wonder kid as they had rejected RC Lens’ approach in winter.
Only a lucrative money deal would change the Spanish club’s mind due to financial strains. Reportedly, anything around £25 million will make it work for the English club.
Barcelona won’t want to lose Faye, especially just a year after signing him, but they ultimately need to sell players.
That could play right into United’s hands with a summer move for Faye becoming increasingly appealing even with a lack of La Liga and first-team experience.
