Potential New Trafford Stadium Compared To Other Stadiums Across Europe

Manchester United Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who has since taken control of the sporting side of manutd dreams of building a stadium that can rival any football stadium in Europe.

Trafford Council have backed Ratcliffe’s vision to build a new stadium. Councillor Liz Patel has thrown her support behind the 71-year-old and his plans.

She said: “That is great ambition from Jim Ratcliffe and these plans match that in terms of the setting and the future of the area.”

He has put together a task force chaired by Lord Sebastian Coe, and also featuring Gary Neville, to come up with a solution to United’s stadium issue.

Old Trafford could be revamped at a cost of around £1billion, but Ratcliffe is dreaming of bigger and better.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to build a new structure on the same site as the current stadium, but to create a complex that would also feature shops and restaurants – all under the United brand.

And at the centrepiece would be a New Trafford capable of seating up to 100,000 spectators.

Ratcliffe is a big fan of the renovated Bernabeu and he could also draw on inspiration from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and grounds in the USA.

The new ground could have a glass exterior like the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of the ultra-modern look, giving fans a tease of the action as they arrive.

Ratcliffe has also been inspired by the work done by Real Madrid and Barcelona, who are currently renovating the Nou Camp at a cost of £1.3bn.

Real Madrid’s new-look Bernabeu cost upwards of £1.5bn but now boasts 5,000 extra seats, a retractable roof and a 450-space car park underneath.

The state of the art arena looks spectacular and Ratcliffe wants United to rival it, whether that means building a new stadium or not.S

Sir Jim Ratcliffe said last month: “Manchester United needs to have a stadium that is befitting the club and the brand.

“If you look at what Real Madrid are doing with the Bernabéu and Barcelona with the Nou Camp, the Bernabéu is fabulous. It’s like a cauldron of noise. The Nou Camp is enormous and they are spending a lot of money revamping it.

“You look at the Premier League, we don’t have anything that compares. And yet the Premier League is several times bigger than the Spanish league in terms of size, scale and importance today.

“That’s where all the money is with TV. The Premier League needs to have some grounds which are the equal of our European competitors.”
