Liverpool Makes Shock Move For Man Utd’s Academy Graduate

Manchester United and England international Angel Gomes is attracting serious interest from the Premier League.

Angel Gomes progressed through Manchester United’s youth ranks, joining the academy in 2006. After an 11-year ascent, he broke into the first team at just 17 years old. However, struggling to secure regular playing time at Old Trafford, Gomes departed for Ligue 1 outfit Lille in the summer of 2020.

Angel Gomes, 24, has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs with his standout performances at Lille, earning him an England national team call-up under Lee Carsley. With his contract set to expire in 2025, former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has weighed in on potential summer destinations for the talented midfielder.

Speaking to PA News Agency, Butt said: “He could play in the Premier League easily. He could play for City tomorrow. But then you put him in at Man United at the minute and he’s got to have the legs to go through the centre of midfield where there’s a massive gap, people run through the Man United midfield like you wouldn’t believe. Then it’s a really difficult game for him.”

With his contract up next year, the Englishman is free to agree a pre-contract agreement with a club of his choice as early as January and the transfer race sure is heating up. Liverpool and a host of Premier League clubs are pushing to get him before the winter transfer window opens in January.
