Reasons Behind Sir Alex Ferguson Old Trafford Dressing Room Ban
Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former manager of Manchester United, has been banned from entering the Old Trafford dressing room following the termination of his contract by INEOS, the club’s new owners.
This decision marks a significant change in policy, as Ferguson had previously been a regular presence in the dressing room, even after his retirement as manager in 2013.
Ferguson’s contract termination is reportedly part of INEOS’ efforts to slash costs and invest more in the team.
The move has sparked reaction from various quarters, with Eric Cantona publicly criticising the decision. Interestingly, Wayne Rooney, a former Manchester United player, had previously revealed that Ferguson didn’t directly control the dressing room, instead relying on senior players like Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, and himself to maintain discipline.
The ban on Ferguson entering the dressing room is seen as a break from tradition, as he had been a respected figure in the club’s hierarchy. However, Manchester United has denied directly banning Ferguson, stating that there is a “collective understanding” regarding who can enter the dressing room.
