Liverpool Ready to Pounce on Former Manchester United Duo in January
Liverpool Enter Fray for Spanish and Benfica Full-Back Alvaro Fernandez, Formerly of Manchester United’s youth ranks.

Benfica’s reputation as a talent incubator continues to pay dividends, with Alvaro Fernandez Carreras emerging as the latest gem poised for a lucrative exit. The Spanish full-back’s remarkable rise since joining the Portuguese giants has caught the attention of top European clubs, including Liverpool.
Carreras’ journey to prominence began when Benfica took him on loan from Manchester United in January. The temporary move soon became permanent, with Benfica securing his signature for a modest €6m in May. Fast-forward a few months, and Carreras has become one of the market’s most coveted defenders.
The 21-year-old was recently linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two biggest clubs in his homeland. The prospect of Man Utd activating their buyback clause for him has not been ruled out.
The Reds are reportedly monitoring Angel Gomes’ situation at Lille, to strengthen their midfield options in the upcoming transfer window.

Gomes’ little experience in the Premier League and his adaptation to Ligue 1 have showcased his versatility. His ability to play across various midfield positions would provide Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, with tactical flexibility.
The move would also represent a return to the Premier League for Gomes, who came through Manchester United’s academy before seeking new challenges in France.
Angel Gomes recently claimed a return to his boyhood club Manchester United has not been ruled out for him with United retaining a soft spot within his heart. It remains to be seen if United will contest with Liverpool for his signature.
