Man United make Contact for Two Goalkeeper Targets

Manchester United Reignite Interest in Zion Suzuki as Goalkeeper Search Intensifies

Manchester United are reportedly revisiting their pursuit of Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, with the club ramping up scouting efforts amid growing concerns over Andre Onana’s inconsistent form.

The Red Devils have also inquired about Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, signaling a potential overhaul of their goalkeeping department this summer.

Onana’s Struggles Under the Microscope

Andre Onana’s debut season at Old Trafford has been marred by high-profile errors, the latest coming in a 2-2 draw to Lyon where his two blunders gifted the French side an advantage.

Despite arriving from Inter Milan for €52 million in July 2023 with expectations of revolutionizing United’s buildup play.

The Bigger Picture for Manchester United

United’s interest in Suzuki, 21, dates back to 2022, when they nearly signed him from Urawa Red Diamonds before work permit issues scuppered the deal. Now at Parma in Italy, the Japan international has reignited their attention.

No club has scouted Suzuki more extensively in recent months, per sources. Praised for his reflexes, distribution, and composure despite his youth. He’s valued at €40million, he fits United’s strategy of investing in high-potential assets.

United have also asked to be kept informed on Bart Verbruggen’s status at Brighton. The 21-year-old Dutchman, signed for €20 million in 2023, has impressed with his shot-stopping and ability to play out from the back.

Brighton may demand upwards of €40 million amid interest from multiple clubs. Verbruggen is seen as a more polished but costlier alternative to Suzuki.

Suzuki could initially serve as backup, while Verbruggen might demand immediate starts. Brighton will likely resist selling Verbruggen unless a premium offer arrives.
