Erik Ten Hag Drops Hint On United Striker Pursuit Before Deadline Day
It has been reported that Manchester United have turned down the opportunity to sign Karim Benzema. The club is said to have decided against engaging in talks due to the high costs involved in bringing the 36-year-old striker to Old Trafford. It has been reported that Benzema earns £86m a year in Saudi Arabia with Al Ittihad. This has been deemed too high for Manchester United to commit to.
Reports from The Sun claims the club had turned down the opportunity to sign Karim Benzema.
Ten Hag says there is “no space” for the club to sign a striker in January; Rasmus Hojlund has scored just two Premier League goals since a £72m move from Atalanta, while Anthony Martial is out until April with a groin injury; United had been linked with a move for Karim Benzema, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Braithwaite but a move seems unlikely at this stage.
Speaking in his press conference during United’s FA Cup fourth round match against Newport, the Dutchman said: “I looked but there is no space.
“Of course, [Marcus] Rashford can play as a striker; we have some other alternatives and it’s clear that Anthony is out for a couple of months it’s a gap in our squad, clear.”
Marcus Rashford who has been hit with disciplinary issue might could yet be beckoned upon to rotate the striker role with Rasmus Højlund who has started to find his feet in English football.
