BREAKING: Man United Submit First Bid for Mbuembo
Manchester United have initiated their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo with an opening offer of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons, though sources close to the negotiations indicate this figure is “some way below the level of fee needed for Brentford to consider sale,” as reported by David Ornstein.
The bid comes after widespread reports, also championed by Ornstein, that Mbeumo has expressed a strong desire to join the Old Trafford club, even amidst interest from other Premier League giants like Arsenal and Newcastle United.
The Cameroon international, who enjoyed a prolific season for the Bees, scoring 20 Premier League goals, is a key target for United’s summer recruitment drive under new manager Ruben Amorim.
However, Brentford are under no immediate pressure to sell their prized asset. Mbeumo’s current contract has one year remaining, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year.
This contractual security gives Brentford significant leverage in negotiations, allowing them to hold out for a fee they deem appropriate.
Reports suggest that Brentford value Mbeumo in excess of £60 million, a figure seemingly benchmarked against the £62.5 million Manchester United recently paid Wolves for Matheus Cunha.
The Bees reportedly believe Mbeumo, with his proven Premier League track record, is worth a similar amount.
While Mbeumo’s personal terms are reportedly in advanced stages, with some outlets suggesting he is seeking a significant wage increase to around £150,000 per week, the major hurdle remains the disparity in valuation between the two clubs.
Brentford are prepared to play hardball, even willing to wait until transfer deadline day on September 1st if it means securing their asking price.
