Man Utd Summer Signing Seeks January Transfer Exit
Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly exploring a departure from Old Trafford in the January transfer window, as his frustration over a severe lack of playing time has escalated significantly under manager Ruben Amorim. Â

Sources, including reports from journalists such as Chris Wheeler and Nath Salt, indicate that securing an exit is now viewed by the 24-year-old Dutchman as “absolutely crucial” to reviving his career and boosting his chances of making the Netherlands squad for the upcoming World Cup. Â
Zirkzee, who arrived at United from Bologna in the summer of 2024, has found opportunities severely limited this season. He has made just a handful of appearances in the Premier League, accumulating a meager total of around 82 minutes on the pitch, and is yet to register a start.
The Dutch international was an unused substitute in four of United’s first seven Premier League matches, leading to what is described as a “great deal of confusion” and deep frustration over his selection choices by Amorim.
His standing in the squad has significantly dropped following the summer arrivals of attackers like Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha.
Even when first-choice striker Å eÅ¡ko was rested, Amorim has sometimes opted to deploy an attacking midfielder like Mason Mount in a false-nine role ahead of Zirkzee. Â
World Cup Ambitions at Risk
The primary driving force behind Zirkzee’s desire to move is his international career. After featuring in Euro 2024, the striker has failed to earn a call-up to Ronald Koeman’s latest Netherlands squad for the October qualifiers. He sees regular first-team football as essential to force his way back into contention for the national team ahead of the World Cup.
His situation draws a parallel to the summer, where United refused to sanction his move despite strong interest from Serie A giants Napoli and Juventus.
Napoli subsequently turned their attention to Rasmus Højlund, who has since experienced a career resurgence on loan in Italy. Zirkzee now hopes to find a similar opportunity to kickstart his own form. Â
