Man Utd Swap Deal with Juventus Collapsed

In a revelation that sheds light on the ambitious transfer strategies of former Juventus director of football Cristiano Giuntoli, it has emerged that the executive, who departed the Turin club just 11 days ago, was actively exploring a significant swap deal involving Manchester United’s Antony and Juventus’s Douglas Luiz.
According to reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Giuntoli had initiated discussions aimed at bringing Brazilian winger Antony to the Allianz Stadium, with midfielder Douglas Luiz heading in the opposite direction to Old Trafford.
The proposed exchange would have seen two prominent Brazilian talents switch European giants, highlighting Giuntoli’s forward-thinking approach to squad building.
Antony, who joined Manchester United in a high-profile move from Ajax, has had a mixed spell at the English club, and a move to Serie A could have offered him a fresh start after loan spell at Real Betis.
On the other side of the potential deal, Douglas Luiz has been reliable at right-back, and his industrious style and passing range would likely have been a valuable asset for Manchester United as they look to strengthen their squad.
It’s understood that Douglas Luiz had previously been on Manchester United’s radar, making this a logical target for them.
However, the intriguing prospect of this swap deal now appears to be on hold, following Giuntoli’s mutual termination of his contract with Juventus on June 3, 2025.
His departure, after two seasons with the Bianconeri, has initiated a restructuring within the club’s football operations, with Damien Comolli reportedly stepping into a prominent role.
While the new Juventus management will now assess their own priorities, the revelation offers a glimpse into the bold ideas Giuntoli was considering to reshape the squad before his departure.
