Real Madrid Wants United to Help Facilitate Former LB Deal
Real Madrid Plot Clever Move to Re-Sign Álvaro Carreras via Manchester United Buy-Back Clause

Real Madrid are reportedly planning a shrewd transfer maneuver to bring Spanish left-back Álvaro Carreras back to the Santiago Bernabéu by using Manchester United as a strategic intermediary.
According to a report from Diario AS, Benfica have slapped a £51 million price tag on the 21-year-old defender, who has impressed in Portugal with his dynamic performances and attacking flair.
However, Real Madrid are reluctant to meet Benfica’s steep asking price and are now exploring an alternative route.
Manchester United, Carreras’ former club, inserted a £15 million buy-back clause when they sold him to Benfica.
Madrid’s plan is to convince United to activate that clause, and then immediately sell Carreras to Los Blancos for a reported fee between £25 million and £30 million still significantly below Benfica’s current valuation.
Real Madrid view Carreras as a long-term solution at left-back, especially with the future of Ferland Mendy uncertain and Fran García still developing.
The club has been impressed by Carreras’ technical ability, defensive positioning, and maturity beyond his years.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester United would agree to participate in the deal, but given the potential profit margin and lack of long-term plans for Carreras, the Red Devils may see it as smart business.
Carreras began his youth career at Real Madrid before joining Manchester United in 2020. His journey could now come full circle with a little help from Old Trafford.
