Revealed: Erik Ten Hag’s Plan For Harry Amass Amid United Injury Woes

In the summer of 2014, Manchester United signed 18-year-old left-back Luke Shaw from Southampton for £27 million.

Manchester United’s purchase of Luke Shaw was a staggering investment, ranking him among the most expensive teenage defenders and fourth-priciest defender ever, behind David Luiz, Thiago Silva, and Rio Ferdinand.

United believed they were investing in the future and were certain Shaw could be their left-back for at least the next decade.

Despite setbacks, Luke Shaw has justified Manchester United’s investment, blossoming into one of the Premier League’s and world football’s top left-backs.

Shaw has played a total of 275 games for United, winning their Player of the Year award in 2019, and this summer started for England against Spain in the final of the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

But as Shaw celebrates a decade at Old Trafford, a new teenage left-back Harry Amass has emerged who could soon give him some serious competition.

Manchester United v Real Betis - Pre-Season Friendly

Amass is a 17-year-old Londoner who has used Shaw’s absence during pre-season to make a strong case he could take his place in the early part of the new season.

With Luke Shaw resting after the European Championship and Tyrell Malacia sidelined since May 2023, Amass seized the chance to shine during Manchester United’s pre-season tour.

Despite Erik ten Hag’s reservations about his readiness, Harry Amass may finally get his senior team debut due to Manchester United’s full-back shortage, with Mazraoui injured and Shaw and Malacia’s returns uncertain.
