Sir Jim Ratcliffe Makes ‘Stunning’ Offer to Elon Musk
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, known as Britain’s wealthiest individual, has reportedly considered tapping into the vast fortunes of Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos to fund a £2 billion overhaul of Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe, who holds a 27.7 percent stake in Manchester United after his £1.2 billion investment in February 2024, faces substantial financial challenges to support the club’s ambitious development plans.
These plans encompass either a significant upgrade or a total reconstruction of Old Trafford, alongside investments in new players during future transfer periods. However, the Glazers, the club’s majority owners, are cautious about Ratcliffe increasing his control through further personal investment.
Ratcliffe’s Proposal to Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos
According to The Athletic, Ratcliffe had explored the possibility of securing “private finance” for Manchester United.
He thought that the allure of the club could draw in Musk and Bezos, whose net worths stand at $486 billion (£388 billion) and $246 billion (£196 billion) respectively.
Despite this, there’s no evidence that these discussions progressed beyond the conceptual stage.
The club has also engaged in preliminary discussions with Bank of America regarding additional loans, but currently, Ratcliffe’s team is focusing on implementing cost-cutting initiatives.
These measures are aimed at ensuring Manchester United’s financial and competitive stability.
