Reports: Rashford Persuades Man United Ace to Accept Loan Move

Marcus Rashford’s Influence Key in Jadon Sancho’s Deadline Day Move to Aston Villa

Aston Villa secured a season-long loan deal for Manchester United’s out-of-favour winger Jadon Sancho, with former teammate Marcus Rashford playing a pivotal role in convincing him to make the move.

The transfer, which sees Villa covering 80% of Sancho’s reported £200,000-per-week wages, marks another chapter in the ongoing saga of Manchester United’s ‘Bomb Squad’ under manager Ruben Amorim, as the club looks to offload players deemed surplus to requirements.

Sancho, 25, has endured a turbulent spell at Manchester United since his £73 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. His time at Old Trafford has been marred by inconsistent performances, a public fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag, and a lack of regular playing time under Amorim.

After a productive loan spell at Chelsea last season, where he contributed five goals and ten assists in 41 appearances, Sancho returned to United only to find himself excluded from Amorim’s plans.

Marcus Rashford, who himself experienced a career resurgence during a loan stint at Aston Villa in the latter half of the 2024/25 season. Rashford, now on loan at Barcelona, reportedly spoke with Sancho about the benefits of working under Villa’s manager Unai Emery.

According to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Rashford’s glowing endorsement of Villa’s ambitious project, supportive environment, and Emery’s ability to revive struggling talents was a significant factor in Sancho’s decision to join the Midlands club. “I am told that Sancho has spoken to Marcus Rashford before completing this deal – he wanted to make sure about the lie of the land,” Bailey revealed.

“And Rashford was glowing in his support of the move. He told him what to expect, and that has played a part in Sancho deciding to make this move.”

Rashford’s own experience at Villa Park was transformative. After falling out of favour at United under both Ten Hag and Amorim, the 27-year-old forward found his form under Emery, scoring four goals and providing six assists in limited appearances.

His performances, including a brace in a 3-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Preston North End, helped him regain confidence and earn a call-up to the England squad.

Rashford’s positive reflections on his time at Villa, where he praised the club’s upward trajectory and Emery’s coaching, clearly resonated with Sancho, who is now looking to emulate his compatriot’s success.
